The project

Founded in 2009 and operational since 2012, the not-for-profit organisation Atouts Camps works mainly on the theme of campsites in Wallonia.

Its aim is to improve the quality, safety, and affordability of youth camps, as well as to support, advise, and inform the owners and tenants of the receiving sites. The organisation also participates in the development of new camp locations.

Atouts Camps is approved by the Walloon Region and awards the official “Campsite” label, certifying the quality and accessibility of such sites, based on criteria such as safety, hygiene, price, location, equipment, and infrastructure.

The challenge

Two distinct targets

For Atouts Camps, our assignment was to design two sites, each one aimed at a specific audience. First came the owners, who needed to be able to post and modify information about their campsites. Then came the visitors, who needed be able to easily find the campsite which suited them best via a multi-criteria search.

Finally, in order to simplify the management of content by the client, the two sites had to share the same database.

Specifications
  • Two sites based on the same database, each with its own audience;
  • Centralising data regarding the location of campsites;
  • Many different user profiles.

The solution

Multisite with two instances

Using a multisite as a base, we opted to create two instances of a directory listing camp locations: the first for certified locations (Atouts Camps), and the second for other locations (Votre Camp). The goal was to offer a tool which would make it possible to easily find a suitable camp location: search by criteria, sorting, geolocation, etc.

In addition to these directories, we designed a system allowing landowners to submit a campsite online (via a description sheet) and manage the organisational aspect (availability calendar, tourist activities in the area, etc.).

Focus on certain features
  • Ergonomics of geolocalised searches (layout adapted to numerous search filters, presentation of results on a map and in lists, contextualised and intuitive forms);
  • Responsive Web Design (accessibility of the platform for organisers looking for a campsite, optimisation for tablets and smartphones);
  • Multisite / multi-domain (database, content, and code shared between two websites with different objectives and specific charters, optimisation of maintenance and daily management costs);
  • Geolocation of certified camp locations (cluster of nearby points, points of interest near the camp location, dynamic choice of maps and layers to display);
  • Performance optimisation (caching for anonymous visitors, caching of the most frequent requests, fast navigation through the results after display, lazy loading of images, etc.);
  • Multi-user management (Permissions and security adapted to multiple users).
